Tablature

Music Tablature

Scribing

Guitar Tablature was invented after standard musical notation was already in existence and like a Grand Staff, guitar "tab" allows lyrics to be included, however it helps in terms of understanding music, to not rely on tab alone.

Chords

Guitar Tablature is useful to determine what chords are used in a song or piece of music and demonstrates the fingering required to produce specific articulations, as well as melodies however guitar chords can also appear throughout standard musical notation or manuscript.

Charts

Guitar Tablature comes in many forms, including charts but is typically written for stringed instruments containing no more than 6 strings, however traditional guitar tablature may incorporate the use of additional strings, such as for Lutes and other stringed instruments.

Publishing

Guitar Tablature is published in the same way as standard musical notation and is sometimes referred to as a Musette Score. Other types of manuscript exist such as Chord Charts, that simplify notation but do not cover improvisation that is common in music.
